Henderson, Nevada is a city located about sixteen miles southeast of Las Vegas in Clark County.
It is noted for being the second largest city in Nevada. It has a population of over three hundred thousand people and is known for being a part of the metropolitan area of Las Vegas.
It is also located just west of Lake Mead and the Hoover Dam. The township of Henderson first emerged during the 1940’s in the World War II era.
With the building of the Basic Magnesium Plant, the town of Henderson quickly became the biggest supplier of magnesium in the United States.
The city supplied the army with magnesium for use in its defense weapons until 1947 when it was no longer necessary.
Henderson became incorporated on April 16, 1953 and elected Dr. Jim French as its first mayor one month later.
